Memory & Time Final

This video was made by me and Duffy Austin with help from Emma White, Drew Prack, and Ian Law.

This video is about a guy who is late for work and while he doesnt notice the world has ended, he has an unexpected fate.

It was difficult working with others on this project due to conflicting schedules. However, when we did get together it became a very fun project. Most of the work I had been a part of was as the photographer and some acting as a zombie.

Memory & Time

For our last project we had to pair up with another student and create a video only using photographs relating to memory and time.

My partner is Duffy Austin.
This is the story board we came up with for our video:

Subvertising Final

I decided to direct the ad towards men and sexuality because it was the first reaction I got to the ad.
I tried to keep the ad as original as possible while changing the context. So I changed the alcohol content information on the bottle to the tag line “It’ll knock her on her back” in reference to the saying “It’ll knock you on your ass”.
If you look closely to the text on the left, I changed “Please use responsibly” to “Please use a condom”.
Also I added a silhouette of a male to to make the viewer aware that a male is present and ready to “get some”. I distorted the shadow falling behind the bottle because I tried to achieve the feeling of perspective and that the background is not flat but more of a ground.
If I could change anything, I would work more on executing the shadow better so it is less confusing.

Subvertising Ads / Pt.2

I decided to go with the Skyy Vodka ad.
Some suggestions for the caption for this ad included “It’ll put you on your ass”.
I decided to play with this saying and direct the ad towards a male audience.
“It’ll put you on your ass” did not seem to be the strongest wording to me. What woman wants to get so drunk that she ends up having sex with someone and regretting it in the morning? No woman enjoys the “walk of shame”.
So, “It’ll put her on her ass”–better yet, “It’ll put her on her back” is what I decided on. This comes from the idea of a man trying to get a woman drunk so he can hopefully “score”.

Subvertising Ads

For our 3rd project we had to find an ad and critique the message that it sends.
These are the basic ideas I have for 3 ads I have chosen.

The vodka ad: All you see is the vodka bottle with bright red legs pointed to the sky beside it. The first thought to my head was that in result to drinking, you increase the chance of getting those legs to spread. I mean, they are already up in the air. Sex seems to be the main message here.
Breast Cancer Awareness ad: Although this is an ad to raise breast cancer awareness..I do not see the need for the models to be nude. Again, sex comes to my mind. Sexual objectification.
Reebox ad: When I saw this ad the first thing I noticed wasn’t the tennis shoes, it was her butt in those skin tight jeans. You can see her from behind in the foreground and turning in the mirror to see her butt too! You see her butt twice compared to the tennis shoes once. This ad would make me feel that anyone who is out of shape, that buying these shoes to workout or just to wear everyday would promote you having a better, more attractive body.

Utopia/Dystopia Final

The image of being up high while a storm is happening in front of me translates the idea of being above or in control any problems happening with me. It also represents a feeling personal to me. Growing up, my father and I would always sit on the front porch together to watch thunderstorms. To have something scary going on but not feeling scared, rather feeling peaceful and calm..it is a wonderful thing.
I tinted her and the rock red to represent her absorbing the storm above and behind her.
This is my utopia, while it could be someone’s dystopia.

Utopia/Dystopia Final 3

The idea of a child (representing me wanting to be a child again) floating in the sky translates the idea of weightlessness. Not just physically but mentally. Having nothing to worry about, feeling free, and being at peace.
The image of being up high while a storm is happening in front of me translates the idea of being above or in control any problems happening with me. It also represents a feeling personal to me. Growing up, my father and I would always sit on the front porch together to watch thunderstorms. To have something to scary going on but not feeling scared, rather feeling peaceful and calm..it is a wonderful thing.
My last idea was a picture of me holding myself in my hands. This basically translates the idea of me being able to be in control of myself. In control of my life, my emotions, whatever effects my life. Although we have a great deal of control of all these things, it is not all the time. Sometimes I get lost. I guess it is kinda like me being my own God.

Very unfinished, but you get the idea.
